Aluminium “Floating stretchers” NEC

NEC aluminium floating stretchers work very much in the same way as wooden floating stretchers. They are made up of a profiled fixed inner frame made of aluminium. Canvas can be stapled to the moveable wooden profiles, which are fitted around this rigid frame. The fixed inner frame significantly improves the structural behaviour of stretchers, compared to traditional stretchers, wherein extension causes a weakening of the joints.
NEC aluminium Châssis flottants© are advised whenever preventive conservation criterion should be used.

Description

‘Floating stretchers’ ensure very smooth and reversible tensioning, even on complex shaped stretchers, as no percussion is required for tensioning.
This is achieved using equidistant screws that have been embedded into the wood. They can be tightened or loosened with the supplied spanner or a ballpoint screwdriver. The many tightening points allows for non-linear expansions of the stretcher bars, which makes it possible to exert different tensions on the canvas. This is very useful in reducing pockets and deformations.

This aluminium and wood stretcher is more rigid than stretchers made entirely of wood.
It is also between 30 and 50% lighter than a wooden floating stretcher.

All sizes up to 10 m can be made as standard creations. For larger sizes, please contact us.
They are delivered with a suitable hanging system.
